Determine if you want the new report to be in "portrait" format with up to eight results (select "Portrait Test Report" in the Database window reports tab) or up to 12 results (select "Landscape Test Report" in the Database window reports tab).
Type "CTRL C" followed by "CTRL V" to copy and paste the report as a new report name.
In the dialog box, if the specific template is, for example, 99, then type "Portrait Test Report #99" as the new report name.
Open the new report in "design view" and edit the report design to meet your requirements.
The next time that you choose Template 99 and select "Test Report" from the Test Report list, the system will open "Portrait Test Report #99" automatically.
Check the Control Segments using the Template Manager/Edit Template feature. If necessary, compare segment information with a working template, make changes, and try again. Next time, be sure to first make a copy of any template you wish to modify, then perform modification on the copy. That way, you will always have the original unmodified template to refer to.
If you are currently using an earlier release of DATUM for Windows after version 2.4, it is easy to upgrade and have continued access to all of your old data by selecting "Data Import or Restore" from "Utilities" on the Main Menu.
If you are using version 2.0, do the following
Install the upgrade at a different location from your current version.
Copy all the files from the old application's "Utsdata" folder to the "Utsdata" folder at the new install location.
Open the old application. From the Utilities Menu, create a template export diskette ("Copy empty template structure to A:"). Then go to the Template Manager and use the "Export" button to export each of your templates to the export diskette.
Open the new application and go to the Template Manager. If there are any templates with the same numbers as you used in your old application, you must first remove them using the "Delete" button. Then use the "Import" button to move all of your old templates from the diskette to the new version. After importing all of your current templates, click the "Exit" button and then quit the application.
Import the Specimen Master, Sample Info and Facility Tables from you old application into the current application. They will have a "1" appended to the name. Then create append queries to append the data from the imported tables into the tables of the same name in the current database. Before running the append queries, you should delete all records in the 3 tables in the current database. After the data have been appended, you may delete the imported tables.
If you are using a desktop "shortcut" to open the application and you have not already done so, change the "target" and "start-in" entries to reflect the new install location of the application. Once you are satisfied that the software is operating correctly in the new location and that you have access to all of the program features as well as your old data, you could delete the old version installation.
If you are currently using version 1.0 software (usually installed at "C:Utstest" with data in "C:AccessMain.Mdb" and "C:TestData1TPL1.MDB thru 200TPL200.MDB", you can use the old application to print out template summaries and apply the template information to create new templates and edit them using the new template manager. Because the table structures were revised in version 2.0, data from version 1.0 will not be accessible with your new application without designing special Append and Update queries to import the data from the old Main.Mdb and individual numbered data bases 1.MDB through 200.MDB. Consult your MS Access Documentation on how to design the queries and macros necessary to import these data.
Access databases need to be "compacted" periodically to preserve performance and reduce MDB file size. All of the databases within your DATUM system should be compacted periodically: DFW_APP.mdb, DFW_DATA.mdb, Hardware.mdb, SpecProj.mdb and DFW_BAK.mdb at the backup location. Compacting is performed by opening the database in "exclusive" mode and select from the database window. You will be asked for a name to compact into. Use the same name as the database you are compacting from.
Check your working directory for the existence of the file LOADFRAM.EQP. This file is required to run United testing machines. It should be located in the DATUM install folder. Contact United if you cannot find the file.
This can be done by selecting proper display units in the hardware setup section of the test program for the strain channel (usually Channel #4). You may also set your gage length to 100 so 1% will equal to 1 inch

United Testing Systems Canada Ltd. warrants the service of equipment sold, and support's Manufacturers warranties. United warrants equipment to be free from defects in workmanship and material for a period of time specified in the product quotation description. Third party equipment and software supplied by United Testing Systems Canada Ltd. is subject to the warranty provisions of the respective manufacturer. Warranty period commences upon physical receipt of the item by the customer.
This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, guarantees, obligations or liabilities expressed or implied by the seller or it's representatives and by statue or rule of law.
If any part proves to defective in workmanship or materials within the warranty period, United will replace or repair the part free of charge provided that the buyer has complied with all terms and conditions. Defective parts shall be returned to the United point of origin at the customers expense for service. Any warranty service required at the customer's facility may be subject to charges for travel by persons providing such service.

Equipment is not warranted for operation in unduly harsh environments or other misuse. For example, overloading or excessive side forces on load cells. Grips and fixtures are not warranted against wear. For example Grip inserts dulled by continuous use do not qualify for warranty replacement.
The United Warranty described herein is rendered null and void in the event that customer fails to make payment in full in accordance with terms of the customers purchase order and United invoice. Warranty status may be restored upon satisfactory evidence of payment compliance.
United assumes no liability for consequential damages of any kind.The buyer by acceptance of this equipment shall assume all liability for any use or misuse. A defect in any part of a machine or system shall not, when such part is capable of being repaired or renewed,condemn the entire machine or system. Customer modifications of equipment or software and failure to perform required preventive maintenance shall void the warranty. Example: Hardness Tester elevation unit and drive assembly require periodic cleaning lubrication.

Software developed by UNITED is furnished for the exclusive use of the customer, with the specific testing system that accompanies the software. The software license is temporary until payment terms are met and may be rescinded by UNITED for non-compliance with payment terms. In the event of questions concerning calculated results, UNITED will verify that software provide by UNITED produces correct test results by comparison with known results from standard specimens furnished by the customer for this purpose. In no event shall United be liable for any consequential damages from erroneous or unintended results.
Third party software, for example Microsoft Access, furnished with UNITED systems is subject to the provider's software license.
The seller shall not be liable for loss or damage due to delay in manufacturer or delivery resulting from any causes beyond the seller's reasonable control, including but not limited to compliance with any regulations, orders, or instructions of any federal, state or municipal government or any department , force majeure, acts or omissions of the purchaser, acts or civil or military authorities, fires, strikes, factory shutdowns or alterations, embargoes, war, riots, delays in transportation and inability due to causes beyond the sellers reasonable control to obtain necessary labor, manufacturing facilities or materials from the sellers usual sources and any delays resulting from such causes shall extend delivery dates correspondingly. In no event shall the seller be liable for consequential or specific damages or act of delay due to any causes.
Buyer will indemnify and hold harmless United Testing Systems Canada Ltd. ("UNITED") United Calibration Corporation ("UNITED") United Testing Systems Inc. ("UNITED") for any violation by Buyer of the U.S. and Canadian export control laws and regulations. Buyer will cooperate with United in making the appropriate filing with the Bureau of Industry and Security at the U.S. Department or Commerce and any applicable foreign authority and will provide any information, certificates or documents as are reasonably requested by United, or any Government agencies, with respect to the export or re-export of any United products, services or technologies.
The seller reserves the right to make changes in design and manufacture of any item covered by a quotation without incurring any obligation to install the same upon units manufactured for or delivered to the buyer prior to such design change under any contract resulting from an order based upon a quotation.
A quotation shall become an agreement binding upon the buyer and the seller when accepted in writing by the buyer and subsequently approved by an authorized representative of the seller at the UNITED plant, and thereupon shall constitute the entire agreement between the parties pending credit approval. No representative of the seller is authorized to modify these terms and conditions unless modification is contained in a written instrument signed by a company officer. Any stenographic or clerical errors appearing in the typed portion of the quotation may be corrected at any time by UNITED. Before shipment of a UNITED Universal Testing Machine, customer may at his/her option and expense travel to the UNITED manufacturing facility in Huntington Beach, California, for preliminary approval/acceptance.
If installation charges or travel costs apply, they will be shown as a separate quotation line item. Factory training at the UNITED Huntington Beach facility is provided free of charge. The customer must pay for his/her own travel expenses. Customer participation is encouraged. Limited casual training at the customer`s is provided by the sales person when the machine is set up. Formal training at the customer`s site may be arranged at our normal field engineering rate. Requested, formal training and associated travel costs will be shown as a separate line item in this quotation. No. The Limit Stops were factory-set to protect the machine and the operator. Changing their positions could cause severe damage to the machine and possible injury to the operator. Under NO circumstances should the Emergency Limit Stops be changed.
On new machines, the little black knob next to the "Slow Jog" button is the speed control for the Slow Jog function. Turning the knob will allow the crosshead to move faster or slower while the Slow Jog button is being pressed.
This problem occurs when the data collection rate is set too high. Try reducing sample rate. In older programs, this step may require software modifications. However, in newer programs, sample rate can be reduced using hot keys. See manual for details.
Check to make sure you entered the correct load cell capacity in the test setup.

In most cases your Q.A policies, contract requirements or department procedures will stipulate rules on the frequency of calibration. Many standards such as ISO and ASTM, either recommend or state mandatory frequencies of calibration compliance. If you are testing to an ASTM or ISO testing standard it is worth checking to see if it stipulates maintenance and calibration requirements. For example, ASTM E8 requires compliance to the calibration standard, ASTM E4 recommends that the test system and all transducers be verified at least once a year. In addition ASTM E4 (paragraph 20.3) requires re-verification whenever a test systems is relocated.
The scope of accreditation defines exactly what the calibration service provider has been accredited under ISO/IEC 17025 to do. Frequently a calibration service provider will have accreditation for some but not all of its calibrations. If you have requirements to test your products or materials, you need to be sure that the results you get are correct. Even the best quality equipment can be affected by external influences that could affect the soundness of the system. Regular calibration and verification provides essential evidence that your equipment is operating to your expectations.
It is strongly recommended that all measuring equipment, other than hand held instrumentation, be calibrated after a move. This also includes after installation. ASTM standard E4 and ISO 7500-1 have a mandatory requirement for such action. If you need assistance on moving and recalibration of your test system, please contact our service department.
If your equipment has undergone a major repair that effects the measuring system we strongly advise to arrange for a recalibration. However, if the repair, update or modification does not affect the measuring system you probably do not need to recalibrate your tester. If in doubt, do not hesitate to call our service and calibration Manager.
Calibration is performed on customers premises and includes verification of LOAD (FORCE), STRAIN, POSITION and SPEED. For load weighing systems, precision strain gauged load cell standards are used together with high resolution instrumentation and/or precision weights.
When an instrument is out of compliance, our field specialists have the ability to make adjustments and/or make necessary repair. Please note, no adjustments will be made without the authorisation of the customer as this could compromise their QA policies. It is also possible for Load Cells, Extensometers, etc. to be returned to our facility for repair.
